Melvonne "Bonnie" Shattuck, 84, died on March 15, 2019, in Flagstaff.  She was born in Waco, Texas, to Arthur Michael Kleypas and Cecilia Ordner Kleypas on July 17, 1934.  She was the sixth of nine children and her mother passed away when she was just eleven years old.  Bonnie helped raise her three younger sisters, including one sister who was less than a year old at the time of her mother's death.

After graduating from High School, she started her professional career as the office assistant to her father in his monument yard in San Antonio, Texas.  It was here that she met her future husband, Burt, who stopped in to ask her for a date as he was delivering bread to a local grocery store.  They were married on December 17, 1954, and blessed with five children.

The family made its way to Arizona, and Bonnie and Burt opened the Flagstaff

Der Wienerschnitzel hot dog stand in 1966.  The business was sold in the early 1970's, and Bonnie and Burt turned their talents to helping to open the Flagstaff Ice Arena as its first concessionaires.  Bonnie settled into her "fourth" career in the late 1970's at the Museum of Northern Arizona.  There, she directed the Museum bookstore until her retirement, where she transformed the shop by adding well-loved art prints to the Museum's fine line of books.

Beyond her dedication to her family, Bonnie was a devout Catholic.  She gave her time and energy to promoting the ministry of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and could be routinely found packing boxes of food for those in need in the Flagstaff community.  After the death of her husband in 2011, she relocated to Sedona where she immersed herself in the faith community at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Bonnie is survived by her children Jill (Tony) Schuster, Donna (Jim) Smith, Debra Nibecker, and Richard (Patti) Shattuck, Jr., eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Diana (Mark) Larson.

A Rosary service will be held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, with a funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22.  The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances and gifts be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to further its goal of supporting those in need.
