Micole Brian Shorty, 45, life long resident of Flagstaff passed away unexpectedly May 15, 2009 at his home. He was born August 3, 1963 in Flagstaff to Benjamin Harrison Shorty and Lola Graham Shorty.

He grew up attending Flagstaff Schools graduating from Flagstaff High School. His Senior year he was Crowned Prom King, named MVP and Outstanding Lineman of the year and assisted his team win the State Championships. During his senior year wrestling he became paralyzed. After his injury he recieved a letter from President Ronald Reagan. In 1982 he was selected as an Honorary Lineman for the Northern Arizona All State Team. He continued his education graduating from NAU.

As a teenager he worked with his grandfather in the Lumberyard as a lumberjack. He then worked at the Cline Library; he then received his license to sell securities and investments for Prime America. At the time of Shorty's death he was an Administrative Assistant for Coconino County where he was also reconized as Employee of the Year.

This past election year Shorty ran for a position on the City Council. In 1985 Shorty excepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He has been active in his church attending First Missionary Baptist church for a number of years and presently attending Christ Church of Flagstaff.

Shorty loved watching sports especially the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phoenix Suns. He was very active in his community. All in all he was an outstanding, well known and respected man.

He is survived by his father Ben Shorty of San Diego; mother Lola Shorty of Flagstaff, brother Mala Shorty of Flagstaff, uncles Larry Shorty and Jed Shorty both of Phoenix, aunts Mary Aurty of Flagstaff, and Helen Summers of Indianapolis. He is also survived by his nephew Michael T. Shorty, of Flagstaff, Cousin Marian Sherid of Flagstaff.

A visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Norvel Owens Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 Noon at Christ Church of Flagstaff.
