Monique Akar, Artist, Business Women, Teacher, Animal Activist & Mom too many; passed away on July 4, 2009 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
She was born on September 12, 1934 in Chicago, IL. To Gustav and Edith Schaper.
She went to Hayward State University & graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Education & went on to earn a Masters Degree in Fine Art.
She started Dogonit Gallery in 1984 and grew it into an international internet business.
After moving to Flagstaff, AZ in 1991, she has served in the capacity of President, dog show chairman & board of directors' of the Flagstaff Kennel Club. She has been involved in Second Chance Center for Animals and as a member of the board. She help start Flagstaff Pet Assistance League "FlagPAL" and had been the P resident for many years.
One of her many accomplishments was heading the building team for Flagstaff's off leash parks (Bark Parks). So it is fitting that her memorial service will be held at the Thorpe Bark Park, 600 N. Thorpe Road, on Saturday July 11th @ 1pm. The Family invites everyone to bring their dog on leash. Please join us.
She is survived by her brother Ron (Jan), her children; Teri (Frank), TJ, Tim (Janine), Todd (Liona), her dogs Sunny and Lucky & her many friends.
