Pauline Graves Struever passed away in her sleep on March 22, 2008 at the age of 93 in Flagstaff, Arizona. She lived a long and happy life and will be missed by many.

Pauline was born on November 18, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1922, she and her family moved to Glendale, California. Pauline attended Hoover High School in Glendale. In 1937, she graduated cum laude with a degree in merchandising from the University of Southern California where she was involved in a number of extracurricular activities, including the Pi Beta Phi sorority, for which she served on the Corporation Board for many years. Later that same year, she married Lyle Leverne Graves, who was to be her husband for the next 48 years, until his death in 1985. Pauline and Leverne moved to Westchester in 1946, where she resided for 52 years. During that time, Pauline wrote a newspaper column on interior design called "Try This" for the Los Angeles Times, which was syndicated in about 80 newspapers across the country, and in Canada and Japan. Her articles also appeared in Better Homes and Gardens, House Beautiful and Redbook. She also wrote a book, "Distinctive Interiors", which was published in 1947, and she was listed in "Who's Who of American Women" in 1950.

In 1988, Pauline married Hans George Struever, who was to be her husband for eight years, until his death in 1996.

Pauline loved writing, reading and conversations on important social and political issues. Pauline was a voracious reader on an extensive number of subjects. She was as comfortable discussing articles in the Scientific American, the New Yorker magazine, or the latest top selling novels on the ten top sellers listing. She had an excellent vocabulary and had an enviable ability to use the precise word at the appropriate time. When she was 85 years of age she was still capable of leaving many of her listeners at a loss as to the exact meaning of some of the words she used, yet they knew her well enough to know the wording she used exactly conveyed the thought she wished to express. She enjoyed sitting by the pool in her backyard on Riggs Place in Los Angeles working on her "Try This" column. She also enjoyed playing bridge and golf at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles, where she was a member for over 40 years. Throughout her life, she maintained a positive, cheerful attitude which made her a joy to be around. She found great happiness in both of her husbands, her children, grandchildren, and friends.

Pauline moved to Flagstaff, Arizona in 2003 to live with her daughter, Terry, and son-in-law John Sterner. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline is survived by her son, Dennis Graves, and his wife Dee Dee and their children Adrienne and Darren.
