Peter Lawrence Collins died on January 16th, 2017 in Flagstaff Arizona, where he lived and worked. He suffered a cardiac arrest while shopping at a supermarket, was taken to Flagstaff Medical Centre, placed on life support, but did not survive. He was 67 years old, born on August 24. 1949. He is survived by his sisters Anne and Virgina, his brothers David and Frederic, and a large family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Peter was shy and retiring, but deeply loving and loved. He was born and lived his early life in Babylon, NY, and attended St. Joseph's Parochial school and St. Anthony's High School.

A lifelong amateur astronomer, Peter worked at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ as a software developer. Early in his career he discovered three novae visually, a testament to his observational skill and patience. Peter read widely, was always an interesting conversational partner, and was a keen observer of nature. A Celebration of Life for Peter was held at the observatory on January 26th.
