Obituary

Raymond John Galvin, Ed.D., passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2024 in Flagstaff, AZ after an unusually severe bicycle accident.

Ray was a previous resident of Flagstaff in the 1980's and spent his later summers in Flagstaff  for the past several decades. He was an avid sportsman, hunter, hiker, cyclist, and camper. Born in Jersey City, N.J. April 9, 1944, he was awarded athletic scholarships to the University of Wyoming in football and tennis where he met his wife of 60 years, Lynn (Jenkins) Galvin. Ray earned a B. A. at UWyo, two M. A.'s at Inter American University in Puerto Rico, and an Ed. D at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.  He worked as teacher, counselor, and administrator in a variety of educational settings. His professional life locations included middle and high schools, colleges, universities, and adult community settings. Ray's career took him near and far, including the Navajo Reservation; Puerto Rico; West Germany; in California; Colorado; North Dakota; Virginia; and Arizona. Ray was known for his invariable good humor, common sense problem resolution, his on-target educational planning skills, professionalism, and a positive influence on students and co-workers.

Ray shared his life's joy with his wife when the couple welcomed the birth of daughter Alexandra and rejoiced again when Alex and her husband Nick added the birth of Sophia to the family in 2020.

The support and love of siblings, Eugene Galvin, M.D. (San Francisco, CA), Rosemary Galvin Lombard (Westfield, NJ), and Gerri Galvin (Jersey City, NJ) and of friends and relatives across the nation and world has been a true comfort.
