Richard "Rick" William Kerling, of Flagstaff, Arizona, was born on September 18, 1966, in Wickenburg, Arizona. He left this earth unexpectedly on February 7, 2026, at his home in Flagstaff.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dianna Kerling; his son, Robert (Katy) Kerling of Brentwood, California; mother, Teverly (Michael) Langford of Phoenix, Arizona; father, Richard Kerling of Buffalo, New York; siblings, Mike Kerling, Tammy (Juan) Ramirez, Tonya (Brian) Drew, Cory Wood, Tarina Wood, Tiffany Wood, and Elizabeth Kerling; sisters-in-law, Debora (Dan) Olme, Terrill Smith, Donna Jackson, and Cheryl Fann; and his beloved grandchildren, Kaylee, Thomas, Joshua, and Kaylin, who brought him immense joy.
Rick was preceded in death by his sister, Dolly Kerling Minkler.
Rick was athletic throughout his high school years and was especially proud of earning the rank of Eagle Scout, an achievement that reflected his strong character, discipline, and deep love of the outdoors. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army, where he welcomed his son, Robert, while stationed in Germany.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Rick deeply loved fishing, camping, and spending time in nature with his Rendezvous primitive outdoor group. Some of his happiest moments were spent near the water—rod in hand—quietly appreciating the beauty and peace of the outdoors.
Rick was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent much of his career installing flooring throughout the Flagstaff area. He earned the respect of coworkers, clients, and friends alike through his integrity, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic.
He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, who were constant companions and a source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love. Rick was known as a genuinely loving person who embraced life, appreciated simple pleasures, and made those around him feel at ease.
He was also remembered for his talent on the dance floor and his love of music. Rick cherished weekends spent listening to local bands with his wife and sisters-in-law, creating memories filled with laughter, connection, and joy.
As the eldest of six siblings, Rick held a deep and abiding love for his family. He was friendly, steady, and formed many lifelong friendships during his years in Flagstaff. His calm and peaceful demeanor touched everyone who knew him.
Rick will be missed dearly—until we meet again.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at the Flagstaff VFW on March 16, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
