Robert W. Knott 87, a longtime Flagstaff resident, died Thursday Jan, 1 2009.
Mr. Knott was born February 28, 1921 in Great Falls, Montana. He married the former Jean Hamlow on September 10, 1940. Mr. Knott served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, stationed at Luke Air Force Base. After the war, Mr. Knott became a licensed aircraft mechanic, working at Sky Harbor Airport until he and his family relocated to Flagstaff in 1965, where he practiced his profession at Pulliam Airport until his retirement in 1989. He and his wife were avid rockhounds and were active members of the Flagstaff Gem and Mineral Society. His many interests included flyfishing, backpacking and roaming the outback of Arizona collecting rocks.
Mr. Knott was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert Lee and his wife, Jean. He is survived by his son Rusty, daughter Candy Holloway (David,) grandchildren Dwayne Knott (Stephanie,) Eric Holloway (Jennifer,) Steven Holloway (Sara,) Dana Povinale (Roman,) Dawn Holloway and three great-grandchildren, Rylee, Eason and Gabriel.
A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Rte 66, Flagstaff, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Flagstaff Gem and Mineral Society Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1261 Flagstaff, AZ 86002.
