Robert Nicklos Sprunck, 86, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 , at his home in Flagstaff , Arizona .

Robert (Bob) was born October 10, 1922 , the son of Paul and Gertrude ( Davis ) Sprunck, in Louisville , Kentucky . Bob graduated from Woodlawn High School , Birmingham , Alabama in 1940 and joined the Marine Corps in 1941. He married Margaret Ester Cordova December 22, 1946 in Yuma , Arizona and adopted her children, Norman and Margaret Hanks. Bob moved his family to North Carolina in 1948 after the birth of the couple's daughter, Trudi,

Bob served his country in the Marine Corps for 23 ½ years primarily as a jet mechanic. He saw action in World War II and Korea . Bob achieved the rank of MGYSgt and was honorably discharged in November, 1964. He then worked for a number of sheet metal firms in California and retired from Hughes Aircraft in March of 1989. After retirement, Bob and Margaret relocated to Grand Forks , North Dakota and then to Flagstaff , Arizona (2000). Bob lovingly cared for his wife of 58 years until her death in 2005 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and Catholic. He was an avid football fan and stamp collector. Bob also enjoyed dancing until his health declined.

Bob is survived by a son, Norman Sprunck (Hanks) and a daughter, Margaret Allen (Hanks), California , and a daughter, Trudi Sprunck Till, Flagstaff . He is also survived by a brother, Paul Sprunck, and a sister, Margaret Anne Ellerbee. Bob has 11 grandchildren (Heidi, Anthony, Edward and Christina; Diana, Bobbie, Carol, Audrey and Elaine; Kevin and Vanessa) and 15 great grandchildren.

MASS 10 a.m., Monday, February 2nd at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2257 Cedar Avenue, Flagstaff.

BURIAL following Mass at Citizens Cemetery , Veterans section, 1300 South San Francisco Street , Flagstaff .
