Rupert Hartmann

Rupert Hartmann, 82, died in his sleep after a long battle with cancer. Rupert and his wife, Catherine, moved to Flagstaff when he retired in 1991 from Oakland, CA where he had worked as a baker at Larraburu and Colombo sourdough bread companies. Rupert served as cook on a German submarine during WW II. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 and met Erika Walle, his first wife and mother of his daughter Barbara Moore on the ship coming over. In Canada he became a baker by trade. He came to the United States in 1961 and lived in San Diego before settling in Oakland. Rupert was an avid skier and enjoyed the Snow Bowl in his retirement.

Rupert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Catherine Hartmann, his daughter Barbara, stepdaughters Linda Lara (Marty Lara) of Flagstaff, Marian Krall of San Leandro, CA, and grandchildren Erica Buxton of Fairfield, CA, Dan Lara (Genifer) of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Becky Lara (Vince McReynolds) of Flagstaff, Honni Kohler, his sister and various relatives in Germany.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 12, 2007 at 3:00 P.M. at the Mountain View Baptist Church, 2150 E. Linda Vista Dr., Flagstaff.
