Robert Russell Meikle (Russ) passed away September 4, 2021 at age 73 at Haven Health in Flagstaff, AZ.

Born April 19, 1948 in Winslow, Arizona, Russ graduated from Winslow High School ('67), and attended Arizona State University ('70) where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Colorado, Ft. Collins ('75), and he practiced as a veterinarian before following his calling in the arts.

Russ had a passion for the Arizona landscape, its colors and its people. For many years he worked on the Bar-T-Bar, rounding up and moving cattle across the ranch. As a gifted artist, this would result in remarkable paintings of the cowboys, cattle, and landscape. In 2008, he opened a gallery in Winslow. Though his paintings evolved over 30 years, he always stayed focused on the land, the colors and the subjects of Northern Arizona.

Russ was preceded in death by his father, Archie Meikle, and his mother Anne. He is survived by his sister Jeri Nowakowski, her husband Alan, their sons Brian and David, his beloved friend Ursula Baker, as well as many loyal and good friends.

Russ was a member of St. Paul's Episocal Church, 600 W Henderson, Winslow, AZ where services will be held Saturday, October 9 at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to remember him may contribute to Parkinson's Research at the Michael J. Fox Foundation ( michaeljfox.org ).
