Ruth Westover Palmer passed away January 28, 2011. Ruth was born on January 3, 1919 to John Lycurgus Westover and Maren Adele Bushman in Joseph City, Arizona. Ruth's ancestry helped establish communities along the Little Colorado River in Northern Arizona in the late 1800s.

She is survived by her husband E. Gus Palmer and her 4 children: Bob (Mary) of Phoenix, Arizona, Tom (Gretna) of Flagstaff, Arizona, Mel (Adeline) of Thatcher, Arizona, and Marena (Don Hales) of Flagstaff, Arizona, and by 35 Grandchildren, 115 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 7 brothers, 3 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 625 E. Cherry in Flagstaff, Arizona at 10:30am on Saturday, February 5, 2011. A viewing will be held at 9:00 am that morning at the same location. There will also be a viewing at the Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, February 4, 2011.

Ruth spent her life serving her family, her friends, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – these were the focus of her life.

Gus and Ruth Palmer, who will have been married 72 years this June, moved to Flagstaff in 1944 and lived there until 2010. Ruth worked for Kaibab Lumber Company in Flagstaff for many years and then later at the LDS Institute of Religion near the campus of Northern Arizona University.

Ruth and Gus served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oakland, California and in Nigeria, Africa. They served in the Mesa, Snowflake and Gila Valley Temples.

The family would like to thank all of the friends, family and caregivers who have served with such kindness and love throughout her life.
