It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven Charles "Murph" McGrath, a chivalrous and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on April 23, 2025, at the age of 63. Born February 17, 1962, in Queens, New York. His family relocated to California; there during high school he was a four-sport letterman in baseball, basketball, tennis, and all-country wide receiver in football. He graduated from Oxnard High School in 1980 and enrolled in Ventura Junior College where he played football. He then attended Long Beach State where he coached basketball and soccer and earned his associate's degree.

In 1984 he enlisted in the Army, after completion of initial training he was stationed in Germany where he met his beloved wife Bianka. In his 36 years of active and reserve service he supported operations from Desert Shield/Desert Storm to Operation Enduring Freedom. Simultaneously he worked in Civil Service for the DOD for 20 years while assigned to the Army Reserves.  He served the last 18 years of his career as a Sergeant Major or Command Sergeant Major and retired as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major of the 505th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade. His selfless leadership and dedication to Soldiers and the Army was unparalleled.

Throughout a very difficult 10-month battle with cancer, Steve remained courageous and hopeful through faith in God and family.  He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, coach, and a cherished friend to many. He will forever be remembered for his smile and selfless character.  He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Jane McGrath. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bianka McGrath; children, Christina (Anthony) Nagle, Steven (Kylee) McGrath Jr, Holly McGrath and Heidi (Ben) McGrath; grandchildren, Penelope, Luka, Quynn and Nash.

The Family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Northern Arizona Hospice team for their compassionate care and support.

A service honoring Steve will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Willliams, AZ on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, with visitation at 9:00 am and Mass at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery- Camp Navajo in Bellemont, AZ.
