Susan Ann
Nauman
Jul 4, 1956 — Jan 3, 2025
On January 3rd our beloved Susan took her last hike up the mountain and is at peace with her creator. She will join her dad, Don Dupras and in-laws Bill and Harriet Nauman along with many other family and friends. Even though cancer took her too soon she will always be loving mom to Travis and Katelin and soulmate to John, beloved daughter to Shirley Lyon, kid sister to brother Scott and his wife Shay, sister-in-law to Mike and Sandi Nauman and friend to many others.
Susan was born in Covina growing up in Southern California loving the outdoors, camping, water skiing, Campfire Girls & playing her guitar, 4H and riding Misty for fun and competition, and began hiking with the Sierra Club. After graduation from HS she obtained her RN degree from Chaffee Jr. College and noticed John in a chemistry class. They met by chance on top of Cucamonga Peak and a couple of years later were married in 1978. In 1981 they pulled up roots and moved to Flagstaff Arizona. Susan was an OB/Gyn Nurse mainly at Flagstaff Medical Center for 25 years and loved the babies. In 1984 Travis joined the family and Katelin in 1987 and the outdoor adventures of hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing, and more became a bit more complicated. Our dogs Kelly, Gizzy, Pixie, Malley, and Roswell (trained as service dog) were adventure companions.
Susan was always a crafty person sewing, knitting, crafting dolls, and more, was active in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Jazzercise, and ukulele and quilting groups. Susan frequently backpacked with the Sierra Club Outdoors Program and was a Life Member. After retiring she took up ultra lite backpacking and did large sections of the PCT and Arizona Trail and paddle boarding. Susan loved the Sierras, the Rockies, and the southwest where her ashes will be spread.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 6pm at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at 1601 N San Francisco St. Flagstaff, AZ 86001. Casual dress please and bring any remembrances of Susan. Donations in Susan's name can be made to the Sierra Club Outdoors Program Service Trips or SOTH Community Outreach Program in lieu of flowers:
