Obituary

Susan Elizabeth Edwards Vesely, 71, of Flagstaff, AZ peacefully passed away surrounded by 20 members of her immediate family on Wednesday February 5, 2025 following a short but valiant fight against an aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Susan, a native of Tucson, AZ, graduated from Salpointe High School, then spent three years at the University of Arizona, and finally joined her husband Ed in Flagstaff. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BS in Education.  She worked for and retired from her position as office manager for neurosurgeon Dr. Steven Ritland after 30 years of dedicated service to one of the most respected neurosurgeons in the country.

She was a loyal U of A fan, teaching her grandkids to sing "Bear down, Arizona" at a young age (we have video evidence).  She loved her flowers, traveling to the beach in California, Hawaii and Mexico, and to the mountains of Colorado during the fall season to see the leaves change colors. She was a staunch supporter of her kid's athletics events, and then her grandkids. At Coconino High School, Susan had her own designated spot for her chair during baseball games. She braved the cold spring weather in Flagstaff as well as the hot summer season in Phoenix in support of her kids and grandkids. When she wasn't able to attend games in Phoenix, she could be found following along from home using her IPad.

She was a master motivator, often saying "you can do anything you put your mind to" and "you can do anything for XX amount of time". As a dog lover, she was a caring "dog mom" to Casey, Rusty, Jessie, Auggie, Lexi, Mattie, Callie and Rizzo.

Susan is preceded in death by her father, Dale, mother Coleen and brother Micheal, father-in –law Ed and mother-in-law "Zak". She is survived by her husband of 50 years Ed (Gus), her two sons Tanner (Sarah) and Kyle (Janet), her brothers Brian (Amy) and Jim (Sharon), sister Laurie (Scott), sister-in-law Naomi, multiple nieces and nephews and her beloved grandchildren Rhya, Taryn, Jayce and Easton.

Services will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church in Flagstaff on Friday, February 21, 2025. The rosary will be held at 10, with the mass at 1030. A lunch reception will follow at the Elk's Lodge immediately following services. The family requests that this be treated as a celebration and Hawaiian/colorful attire is preferred for both the mass and reception. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
