Obituary

Tom Reid died at home, under the loving care of his wife of 66 years, Ruth. He was preceded in death by his son Don, and is survived by his children Ken and Barbara, 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the only child of William and Florence Reid. He graduated from Penn State as a Petroleum Engineer and worked in the oil business for years before moving to Flagstaff in 1970 where he worked for the Forest Service until his retirement in 1986.

Tom and Ruth were volunteer youth leaders at Salem United Methodist church and led the youth program there while their children were involved, providing many hours of wholesome activities. Upon moving to Flagstaff they became involved with the United Church of Christ and enjoyed serving there. They could be counted on to volunteer at the Food Center, help with garage sales, or just take out the trash. Tom served as the leader of the Prostate Cancer support group in Flagstaff for years and was a great resource to the men involved.

Tom was happiest when he was in the outdoors. He will be remembered by the many who loved him for his hikes in the woods and the Grand Canyon, his big garden in Indiana, fishing together, and camping in many places throughout the country. Swimming in and skating on a nearby lake are fond memories for his children. He was devoted to his family.

The family is extremely grateful to Carlos Puentes and Christine Mitchell and to Sarah Wyard RN at Vista Hospice for their wonderful care of Tom during his last months, enabling him to be at home where he could watch his birds and other wildlife out his window.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to First Congregational Church of Flagstaff or Vista Hospice.

A memorial service will be held May 27th at the First Congregational Church of Flagstaff at 10:00 am.
