Mother Vera Haley was born on April 23, 1921, in Stamford, Texas, to Charlie A. Morris and Luberdie Williams. Mother Haley accepted Christ at an early age, and united with Weeping Mary Baptist Church, in Anson, Texas. Mother Haley was a quiet force and a gentle, compassionate person, who cared for her family, friends, and community at large, with Godly passion, and commitment. The way she lived her life clearly reflected her belief in God, and her willingness to serve others. She was dedicated to her weekly prayer meetings, Sunday School, and church services. She was known throughout the region for her singing and praising and worshiping God. After uniting with First Missionary Baptist Church in Flagstaff, Arizona, she joined the church choir, and sang until her health failed. Most of her work experience was as a cook. She was well known for her cooking expertise in Anson, Texas, at Valley View Nursing Home for 20 years, also at a sorority house at U of A, in Tucson, Arizona, and a private restaurant in Buckeye, Arizona. Her hobbies were fishing, gardening, sewing, and visiting the retirement home, and singing. Her talents were not taken lightly, she did them to the best of her ability, to the honor and glory of God. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, one daughter, and one son. She leaves to mourn, her husband, B.J. Haley of Anson, Texas, Three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cody, of Tucson, Arizona, Mrs. Annie B. Nichols, of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Earlene Williams, of Berkley, Calif., Son, James T. Sims (Shirley), Flagstaff, Arizona, Michelle Warton (Antwon) of Peoria, Arizona. Twelve Grandchildren, Thirty-three Great-grandchildren, and 1 Great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mama Vera attributed her longevity to a Godly life, from an early age on. Her passing will leave a void in the many lives she touched, but the precious memories will always remain.
