Dr. Vivian Alice Collins-Akers, 72 of Flagstaff, Arizona passed away peacefully with her family on February 18th after an extended illness. She was born in Newark, NJ in 1952 and grew up in Scranton, PA. She was the daughter of Dr. Robert and Frances Provell of Scranton. Surviving is her spouse of over 37 years, David Akers.  Additionally, she has two daughters; Juliet of Texas, Sandra of Pennsylvania, and four grandchildren. Vivian was an Army veteran and served for 7 years in the signal corp as a telecommunications technician, instructor, and a honor guard member. For over 3 three years, she was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany which provided the main communications point for all of Europe during the Iran-Contra conflict period. After the Army, she continued to work in telecom and met her future husband David at a telecom training class in Denver in 1986. Vivian earned her BA degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and her MA and PhD from the University of North Texas.  She became a board certified Psychologist and had her own practice and also became an university associate professor. She enjoyed camping with her RV and also traveled extensively to Europe, the Caribbean, New Zealand, and Australia where she was able to explore the Great Barrier Reef. Vivian loved gardening, cooking, entertaining, her many cats and dogs, and singing in the rain. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
