Obituary

Willie Bell Scallions Valle
On May 20, 2010, our beloved Aunt Bell went to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her late husband and best friend, Avis Valle; the love of her life and husband of forty-six years, Lee Edward Scallions, and their infant son; parents, Minnie Bell and Willie James Neely; and sister, Laura Gaines.

Aunt Bell was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on September 10, 1919. As a young girl, she babysat for a few neighbors, including a very young Elvis Presley. At age sixteen, she became a mill worker to help support her family. After her marriage to Lee (and the end of WWII), she became a homemaker. Following a move to Arkansas and due to Lee's health, they moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 1976. Upon Lee's death, she became very active in the Gilbert Senior's Center, being named "Volunteer of the Year" in 1988. There she met and married her second husband, Avis. Upon his death and after the care and death of her sister, Laura, she moved to Winslow, Arizona in 2002, to live near her nephew Bobby Joe Yeates and wife Nadiene.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 9:30 am at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Cave Creek, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the City of Winslow (Winslow Animal Shelter) at 119 E. First Street, Winslow, AZ 86047 or Hospice Compassus at 1000 N. Humphreys St., Suite 220, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
