Yvonne Pauline (Wilson) Simpson, 64, was called home on April 25th, 2008. Born and raised in El Paso, TX, she married her high school sweetheart, Lanis (Jim) Simpson, and moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 1971 with their children Julie, Mark, and Jennifer. They lived there for 35 years. Mesa has been their home for the past 2.5 years.
Yvonne was a 1961 honors graduate of Ysleta High School in El Paso, TX. She attended college at Texas Tech, UTEP, and NAU in Flagstaff. She was a leader for both girl and boy scouts. Her calling was a family history consultant for the 4th Ward of the LDS church. She retired from the NAU business office after 10 years. Her hobbies included being secretary for many Flagstaff bowling leagues and genealogy. In her later years her greatest passion was being a grandmother.
She was the daughter of Vaughn (Okie) and Pauline Wilson. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Lannis James (Jim) Simpson, her daughter Julie (Jeff) Plescia of Sykesville, MD, her son Mark (Rhonda) Simpson of Oak Harbor, WA, and her daughter Jennifer (Jon) Beaty of Mesa, AZ: her brother Kenneth (Julie) Wilson of Clint, TX and her nephew Scott (Monica) Wilson of El Paso, TX; her granddaughters Ashley and Amanda Simpson, Caroline and Elisabeth Plescia and her 6 month old grandson Cole Thomas Beaty. She is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends across the United States. She was preceded in death by her newborn son James Vaughn Simpson.
A celebration of her life will be Saturday, June 14th at 10:00 in the Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
