Arizona native Alice Yvonne Attebery Slayton (known by everyone simply as "Yvonne"), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of August 7, 2017. Yvonne was born July 28, 1929, the third of five children, in the then-new United Verde Hospital in Jerome, Arizona, where her father, Harrell Attebery, worked as a hydraulic driller for the mines in both Jerome and Chloride, Arizona. Her mother Pearl Attebery was a homemaker. Yvonne graduated from Mohave County Union High School in Kingman in 1947 and received her teaching degree from Northern Arizona University (then Arizona State College) in 1952 She married Victor Robert Slayton ("Bob") in 1951 and taught in elementary and junior high schools in Maricopa county. Her first child, Kristie Ann Slayton (Pagel), was born in 1952. In 1961, Yvonne and Bob moved back to Flagstaff from the Phoenix area, and Bob became part owner of Vic Slayton Plumbing and Heating. Yvonne had two more children, Dan Richmond, born in 1955, and Robyn Sue (Martin), born in 1958. In 1973, Yvonne and Bob divorced, and Yvonne married the love of her life, Marion Gordon, in 1974. Yvonne returned to NAU in the early 1970s and in 1974 received her Masters degree in Counseling, working for both the Flagstaff Public Schools as well as the Kingman Public Schools as an elementary school counselor until she retired in 1993. She was a longtime, active member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Flagstaff, was a member of the NAU Alumni Association, and was a talented artist, poet, and voracious reader. She loved to travel and spend time with her family and many friends, including close friend Bruce Crozier. She is survived by her brother James Attebery, her sister June Giansoldati, her three children Kristie, Dan and Robyn, her grandchildren Katy Gant (Robyn), Nicole, Tom and Alex Pagel (Kristie), Lindsey and Kristin Slayton (Dan), her great-grandchildren Clarissa and Richard (Tom Pagel), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church, 951 N. Switzer Canyon Dr, Flagstaff, AZ on Saturday, August 12, at 1 p.m. with visitation at Norvel Owens Mortuary on Friday, August 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army or Compassion International.
